A group of professionals from the Donald. J. OttenbergnStudy Centre from Modena (Italy) has visited the Faculty of Psychology and Speech Therapy of the University of Valencia in order to know in detail the Contexto Programme, a programme of intervention with intimate partner abusers based on scientific evidence. This Programme, directed by Professor Marisol Lila Murillo, is developed in collaboration with PSIMA, Association of Professionals in the Intervention of Abuse, and the General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions.
The participants in the visit were Francesca Borghi, Marinella Bandini, Daniele Gaiola, Enrico Turra, Silvia Paris, Silvia Spallanzani, Ilaria Motta and Daria Vellani.
The Contexto Programme has established itself as a benchmark in intervention with intimate partner offenders thanks to its solid track record and the numerous scientific studies that support its effectiveness. During their visit, the italian professionals had the opportunity to explore in depth the strategies used in this intervention, learn about the results of the research team and share their experience with the Contexto Programme team.
Contexto is characterised by its research and intervention-based approach, with a strong connection between the academic and social spheres. The Programme not only works on the rehabilitation of offenders, but also fosters cooperation with penitentiary institutions and social organisations to ensure a comprehensive approach to gender-based violence.
The visit of the Italian professionals is an important step towards the internationalisation of gender-based violence intervention models, laying the foundations for future collaboration in similar research and programmes in Europe.
